Comic-Con 08: Marvel hints at a new Marvel Vs. Capcom Game Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel Studios, has reopened the doors to the possibility of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game. When asked if a new Marvel vs. Capcom game would ever be made during Comic-Con 08, Kevin responded by saying, “Yes. And maybe sooner than you think.” Seeing as how we’ll never get Tatsunoko vs. Cacpom: Cross Generation here in America, IGN thinks that the possible new Marvel vs Capcom game could use the Tatsunoko vs Capcom game engine. As cool as that would be, I think the cartoon style from the last two games would fit better with the Marvel-verse.

EA/Marvel Deal Split Ways IGN is reporting that the deal between EA and Marvel that would’ve seen EA developing a next gen fighter based on Marvel properties has been terminated. Considering EA Chicago’s closure in November, this is probably just the logical next step in deductive reasoning, but it does come with a bit of an additional “hurrah” for fans. According to Justin Lombros (VP of Marvel Interactive), despite the deal between EA and Marvel falling through the cracks, this setback is “not affect Marvel’s ongoing plans to release fighting games based on the Marvel properties in the future.” IGN is quick to point out that it seems that Marvel is intent on pursuing a character based fighting game, but it hasn’t revealed what developers or publishers may be involved. Now I know this is wishful thinking, but with Street Fighter IV coming out, is it too soon to go ahead and start requesting Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Perhaps… But one thing is for sure - Justin Lombros is a fan and recognizes the value of the Marvel vs. Capcom brand. Check out this Gamasutra interview from September. I’ll point out my favorite passage (answered as a response to possibly putting Marvel vs. Capcom or Marvel Superheroes on Xbox Live Arcade): Yeah, the Marvel Vs. Capcom stuff has a definite close place in my heart, so we definitely wanna see that stuff live on. The writings all on the wall here… I’m just curious if Marvel/Capcom are going to jump at the opportunity to re-enter business together. Justin Lombros seems to be a believer. Who do we need to hassle at Capcom to make this happen?

Marvel Vs Capcom 3/Street Fighter 4 Producer Interview In a Street Fighter IV interview from December 2007, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono expresses his interest in creating a new Marvel vs. Capcom game. “Ono (Yoshinori Ono, Capcom producer) was asked, if he’d like to try reinventing any of the other fighting franchises languishing in Capcom’s stable. As it turns out, he sure does: “Personally, I’d love to make a new Marvel vs. Capcom, and I’d also like to see the triumphant return of Darkstalkers to a new generation of technology. It would be an interesting challenge with Darkstalkers, because in the old games, you’d see a lot of really interesting animations as characters would morph into different forms. That would be tricky to do with this 3D engine, but not impossible. In two or three years, if I got the chance to resurrect that series, I’d like to shock Hollywood with how good the graphics would look.”
